About the Midwife
I began working in out-of-hospital birth in 1999 after I had the opportunity to birth my third child at home. It was a joyful and rewarding experience, and I fell in love with the profession. I certified through the North American Registry of Midwives as a Certified Professional Midwife, CPM. I am also licensed with the state of Utah as a Licensed Direct Entry Midwife, LDEM. I have had the privilege to work with hundreds of women over the last twenty years. I started my own practice in 2014, and have had the opportunity to work in both home birth and birth center. I love what I do, and am committed to giving the best care possible.
My midwifery philosophy of care…
Birth is a beautiful and natural process of life. Recent studies have suggested out of hospital birth has a higher success rate of natural birth with fewer interventions, and, when safeguarded by a knowledgeable attendant, is a safer option for low risk women. This is very exciting news for the birthing community as a whole. Birthing mothers who are choosing to birth outside of the hospital are gaining more support, both in their community and with their providers. As a midwife, I feel blessed to be serving in the birthing community at a time when so many doors are opening, and where birthing mothers are being acknowledged, respected, and celebrated for the powerful, incredible women they are. Pregnancy and birth is a time of transformation, of reflection, and of love and joy.
Benefits of receiving care with me…
Mother’s forum meetings. Come meet the other midwives and apprentices I work with and mingle with other expecting mamas. (Optional)
Personalized care. I make every effort to tailor my services to the needs of each client. My care is as unique as the individual. I want you to feel safe and heard throughout your experience in my care.
Autonomous care. I follow your care from pregnancy to postpartum, and give you opportunities to meet and get to know anyone who may be working with me.
Client led care. You direct how you want your birth and care to go and I do my best to accommodate. My job is to oversee the safety, not force processes and procedures.
Informed decision making. We discuss together every aspect of your care including risks and benefits of any action.
Evidence-based practice. I strive to stay up to date on the latest evidence. I offer delayed cord clamping, minimal vaginal exams, skin-to-skin, bonding, pain management techniques, water labor and birth (if desired), breastfeeding assistance as needed, and many other evidence supported practices as our standard of care.
Anecdotal support. I also offer time-honored traditional support such as herbs, homeopathy, nutrition, acupressure, and emotional support as well as a few tricks I’ve learned from serving in Haiti.
Helpful resources. I am well connected with the birth community and have resources for just about anything you may need. Let me know if you’d like a referral.
